Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
