Disturbing Footage Captures Point Police Get Knifed in Unexpected Assault
A police sergeant who jumped to the assistance of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in the area in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Policeman knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera video shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade extended.
He struck the officer who stumbled and went down to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being continually attacked with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a safe opportunity, concluding the struggle to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his throat and further injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.
Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before medical personnel arrived.
The latest award follows after the law enforcement team received organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in early 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The actions of all three officers eventually saved each other and ensured no civilians endured any wounds."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
