Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to reprise their roles in the new Hunger Games film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Reunion for Fans
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the filming timeline:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
- The eagerly awaited film is scheduled for November 2026 release.
