Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.
All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, ongoing issues are likely to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with many others facing hold-ups.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be impacted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
