Patriots Match Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Win Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs in the present year
New England tied their top unbeaten stretch since the Brady period as they beat division rivals the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad secured an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the New England's lead at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie rushed for two short rushing scores before the running back grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be great."
Fields found Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the win
